ITALIAN HIGH JUMP SHOW EXPECTED – JIMBO IS COMING

12. 04. 2022 | 12:01

The organizers started selling tickets some time ago and believe that after two years of pandemic measures, spectators will return in full to the City Stadium at the 61st Golden Spike Ostrava, part of WA Continental Tour Gold. It will be on Tuesday, May 31 with the main program from 5 p.m.

The first big foreign name that should support the sale of tickets (apart from the main grandstand, the price is 200 czech crowns, approx 6 euros and the sale through www.zlatatretra.cz) is the Italian high jump showman Gianmarco Tamberi. It will be his third appearance at the Golden Spike, but he has not yet won, the best was the third in 2020. The Italian made for headlines when he agreed with his opponent from Mutaz Barshim at the Olympic Games last year that they would share the gold. Otherwise, he is also the World and European indoor champion. Last month at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade,  he jumped 231 without preparation and won bronze. He is preparing for the summer season with all the ties and will have starts at the Diamond League in Doha and Birmingham before the Golden Spike. The best Czech high jumpers European Under-23 champion Jan Štefela and national champion Marek Bahník will be present also. From international names to note the Oceanian record co-holder and fifth from the Olympics Brandon Starc from Australia (236) or another Olympic finalist British Tom Gale with a personal record of 233 cm.

Golden Spike Ostrava maintains a high reputation in the track and field world, in the last year edition in total 13 future individual Olympic medalists from Tokyo competed. Also this year, the TV signal from Golden Spike will go to 140 countries around the world.

In addition, the city level competitions of the Chocolate Spike are already in full swing, Czech 100 m record holder Zdeněk Stromšík took part in Vyškov and 400 m hurdles record holder Jiří Mužík in Blansko as ambassadors.
